New Verification Tool for Smart Tweezers and LCR-Reader

Siborg Systems Inc. and the Institute of Automation and Electrometry of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Novosibirsk, Russia have joined to develop a new verification tool for the Smart Tweezers line of LCR-meters.

The jig uses 16 known components, including 8 resistors, 4 capacitors and 4 inductors of different values within the Smart Tweezers and LCR-Reader measurement range. The LCR-meter is connected to the verification jig using a 4-wire connection. When connected, the jig connects to each component and displays the results on the Smart Tweezers’ display. The tester than compares the component value to the resulting test values on Smart Tweezers.

The 4-wire connection used ensures that there is less noise being generated by the connections on the PCB. Each connection is then controlled by a microprocessor and  a set of 32 relays. After a switch, the micro-controller goes into sleep mode which further reduces the effect of the digital circuitry on the measurement.

“Although all Smart Tweezers PCBs are calibrated after the PCB is made, the verification jig is still a desirable tool for incoming control and troubleshooting devices returned due to a failure or malfunction. It can also be used for periodical traceable calibration if the jig is calibrated by a certified agency. The best thing about the jig is that it can be used for any model of Smart Tweezers after the ST-3 where, for the first time, the 4-wire connection was utilized.” says Michael Obrecht, the Director of R&D at Siborg Systems Inc.

LCR-Reader to be Shown at Produktronika in Munich

Siborg Systems Inc.’s affiliates KIT, Germany, and Bokar International, USA, are taking the new LCR-Reader and Smart Tweezers ST-5 to Germany to be shown at Produktronika.

A few batches of the new LCR-Reader are now available from Bokar International, Van Device Ltd. in Japan, Russian Sanata-Tech, and Advance Tech, India.

“We are not sure how popular the new device will be. It is always hard to predict the market. But we are hearing good responses from our European distributors and therefore we are going to present LCR-Reader at Produktronika in Munich in November. Meet us at KIT Kroschewski Industrie Technik GmbH.” says the CEO at Bokar International, Czes Ruskowski.

New LCR-Reader and Smart Tweezers ST-5 Available in Southeastern Japan

Siborg Systems Inc. has gained a new distributor for Southeastern Japan; Indochina Equipment and Accessories Joint Stock Company, based in Hanoi, Vietnam, has agreed to distribute both the new LCR-Reader and Smart Tweezers ST-5.

Indochina JSC is a known supplier in Southeastern Asia, specializing in supplying equipment and spare parts for various industries using heavy machinery.

“In a modern world, all machines use Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) with a high density of Surface Mount Devices (SMDs),” says Mr. Tam, the CEO of Indochina JSC, “A few of our clients approached us with a request to procure Smart Tweezers LCR-meters, which is an indispensable tool for PCB repair.”

Siborg Systems Inc. Releases LCR-Reader; Sale Until October 31, 2013

Siborg Systems Inc. has released the LCR-Reader, the newest model in the line of Smart Tweezers LCR-meter. The new device is half the weight and size of previous models; it is now available for a special introductory price until October 31st, 2013. To order, follow the LCR-Reader Sale link.

Before its release, the LCR-Reader was showing variations while trying to achieve the 1% basic accuracy. This problem was fixed by using a Calibration Fixture to calibrate each unit to the desired values.

“We are every happy with the new device. Customer satisfaction is our main priority,” says Michael Obrecht, the Director of Research and Development at Siborg Systems, “Therefore we took additional measures to ensure high measurement accuracy of the LCR-Reader before we start mass production of this model. Basic accuracy of 1% was our target and we eventually have been able to achieve it.”

The LCR-Reader is the newest model in the Smart Tweezers line of LCR-meters and is the first to debut the new design with half the weight and nearly half the size of previous models at 1 oz. A new high-contrast display shows all the measurement values and test parameters instantly after evaluation.

Features on the device include;

-Automatic Inductance, Resistance, Capacitance, and Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) measurements
-Component identification
-1% Basic accuracy
-Ergonomic, one-handed design, now only 1 oz.
-One button navigation
-Automatically selected test frequency
-Test signal amplitude of 0.5Vrms
-Li-Ion battery with micro_-USB charging (cable not included)

Siborg Systems Inc. wanted to create a device with a lower price than previous Smart Tweezers models, making it more affordable to a wider range of users. Instead of the higher price of Smart Tweezers ST-5, around $500 USD, LCR-Reader retails for less than $200 USD. This was made possible by omitting some features, including the diode and continuity testing, component sorting with variable tolerances, and the semi-automatic offset subtraction. By simplifying the device to the best of what Smart Tweezers has to offer, the LCR-Reader was able to achieve a lower price.

The Smart Tweezers Comparison Table now features the LCR-Reader, showing a side-by-side view of the specifications on each model.

Siborg Systems Inc. Shows LCR-Reader at Nepcon Shanghai

Siborg Systems Inc. debuted the new LCR-Reader at Nepcon Shanghai Trade show with excited feedback from current users and new customers.

The new LCR-Reader offers users the same functionality as the Smart Tweezers line of LCR-meter but has half the weight and size of previous models without limiting the high accuracy measurements.

The Nepcon Shanghai Trde Show is the largest electronics manufacturing show in China with an estimated 20,000 visitors and hundreds of exhibitors, including leaders in Surface Mount Technology; Fuji Machine Manufacturing, Sony, Hitachi, Panasonic, Heller and OK International.

LCR-Reader was presented by Asian-distributors of the device AscenTek, China, and AscenTex, Taiwan, and Siborg Systems Inc. Jason Yeh, the GoldTek Sales Manager said,  “It is very important to be able to reduce the price of LCR-Reader compared to the Smart Tweezers LCR-meter. We hope to double our sales wth the introduction of the new affordable model.”

The new device offers a basic accuracy of 1%, the same accuracy available on previous ST-2 and ST-3 models. The first to debut the new design, LCR-Reader features a 1 oz. weight and a slimmer build with a bright OLED display and a new one button navigation. With a press of the button, the device changes the measurement mode from the default ‘Automatic Mode’ to ‘Inductance’, ‘Resistance’ or ‘Capacitance’. All measurement and secondary values, as well as the component type and test parameters are automatically displayed on the device. Powered by a Li-Ion battery and rechargeable via micro-USB, LCR-Reader is perfect for travel or working in the field.

Retailing less than $200 USD, the LCR-Reader’s lower price was made possible by a cheaper manufacturing cost to the benefit of the consumers. To lower cost, features such as offset subtraction, voltage measurements, component sorting with variable tolerances and continuity and diode testing were omitted.

Siborg is releasing the LCR-Reader in July/August 2013, with sales expected to be four times that of the previous ST-5 model.

New Smart Tweezers LCR-Reader; A Glance into the new LCR-Reader

Smart Tweezers LCR-meter have become a popular tool for testing and troubleshooting Surface Mount Technology. The unique design makes it easy to grasp and hold any component with the combination of a set of tweezers and an LCR-meter in a nearly pen sized device. When in contact with a component, the device will automatically determine the type of component and measure for Inductance, Capacitance or Resistance as well as secondary values such as the Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR).

Siborg has remodeled Smart Tweezers to become more available to users. Previously, Smart Tweezers is offered at a relatively high price of around $500 USD. The LCR-Reader is a more budget friendly model, retailing around $200, while still offering fully automatic measurements and a high basic accuracy of 1%.

To achieve this, the LCR-Reader doesn’t include features such as component sorting with variable tolerances, variable test signals (opting for a fixed 0.5 Vrms; this may hinder testing ceramic components.) and semi-automatic offset subtraction.

The LCR-Reader is the first device to debut an updated look for the popular LCR-meters. This includes a lighter weight of 1 oz., a slimmer body and a bright OLED display; nearly half the weight and size of previous models.

A new one button navigation allows users cycle through measurement modes, instead of having to access the menus. This saves time when needing to set the device to a specific measurement mode. All measurement values are instantly displayed on the embedded display.

The LCR-Reader will be released in the summer of 2013, with sales estimated to be four fold compared to the previous sales of Smart Tweezers ST5.
